Setting UP the OEM
----------------
1- Install all the options from the CD

2- Run Enterprise Manager Configuration Assistant

3- Start the Agents
If you want to...                         Enter the command...  
Start the agent on UNIX platforms         agentctl start agent   
Stop the agent on the UNIX platform       agentctl stop agent   
Verify status of the agent                agentctl status agent   

4- Starting the Management Server
On Windows NT: 
     Start the Management Server from the Oracle Management Server NT Service via Control Panel > Services. 

On UNIX:
	oemctrl start oms&

To check the status
	oemctrl status oms <EMAdministratorName>/<EmPassword>[@<hostname>]

Stop the Management Server
	oemctrl stop oms <EMAdministratorName>/<EmPassword


5- Starting Enterprise Manager (Console)

On Windows platforms: 
          Start the Console from the Windows Start menu under the appropriate Oracle Home. 

On UNIX: 
          oemapp console

If you are logging in to the Console for the first time, after the first login dialog appears, 
type in the default credentials for the super administrator account. 
     Administrator = sysman 
     Password = oem_temp (despues ponerle manager, por ejemplo)

Select a Management Server which is configured with the repository you want to access from 
the Management Server pull-down list. 
     If the name of the Management Server you want to use does not appear, follow the instructions below: 
        a.Click the Management Servers button. The Management Servers dialog appears. 
        b.Click the Add button. The Add Management Server dialog appears. 
        c.Type in the name of the Management Server and click OK. 
        d.Select the Management Server from the pull-down list. 

After the initial login, a security login dialog appears where you can change your password. 
You should change the password immediately. 


6- Discover services

7- Set up Preferred Credentials on nodes
   Go to System and complete all the fields there (Pager, Mails and Backups).	

8- Reset SYSMAN password in OEM
Lost the sysman password of Oracle Enterprise Manager? 
The procedure smp_maintenance.reset_sysman() (and script "vduResetSysman.sql" 
in OEM 2.0.4) resets the SYSMAN password to the default setting. 
During the next EM Console logon attempt using the SYSMAN account, 
the software forces a password change. The passwords are not logged in 
history and can be reused. The password is limited to 8 characters and is 
case-sensitive.

** FAQ's About OEM **

Does my OEM Console need to be running for me to get email or paging notifications?
      No. In OEM V2, the notification is handled on the middle-tier by the 
      OMS. In order to receive notifications through a paging system, the OMS
      must be running.

Does Oracle Enterprise Manager include a paging service?
      The paging service ships as a separately installable component on all 
      Enterprise Manager CD-ROMs.
      Paging services are only available on Windows NT and only from the OEM 
      2.0.4 CD-ROM via the Agent Extensions installation option. You must 
      install the paging service in the same Oracle home as the Intelligent 
      Agent (you do not need OEM Console or Management Server installed on that
      same machine). Refer to the Enterprise Manager Installation Guide for 
      details.


How can I reset the SYSMAN password if I forgot it?
     To reset the password of SYSMAN to the default oem_temp, you will need to 
     log on to SQL*Plus Worksheet as the OEM Repository ower. Then issue the 
     following:
         UPDATE SMP_VDU_PRINCIPALS_TABLE
         SET password = 'E5A264514813C63F09D3A127712E2AE229A8CF88724FF226'
         WHERE UPPER(principal_name) = 'SYSMAN';
     A script called vduResetSysman.sql, has been added to the OEMV2 
     installation, which contains this command. This script resides in the
     "$ORACLE_HOME\SYSMAN\ADMIN" directory.


Problem Description:
====================
You are running Performance Manager (PM) 2.X trying to connect to a remote 
database and you receive one of the following errors:
    VTM-5: Error connecting to server
 - or -
    VTM-7: no collection cartridge of this service type
followed by the java.net.connect exception: 
    connection refused 

Solution Description:
=====================
There are several things to check:

1. Start the Oracle Data Gatherer if you have not yet done so:
--------------------------------------------------------------
On UNIX:
     $ vppcntl -start

     As soon as everything is started, run the following command:
     $ vppcntl -ping

This command will report if the outside world will be able to communicate with the Data Gatherer.


On NT:
	Start the Data Gatherer service from the NT Control Panel/Services icon.


2. Check the preferred credentials:
-----------------------------------
You need to change the Preferred Credentials for the target database service to 
a valid user with dba priveleges:

* Click on the 'System' menu:
   ->Preferences
      ->preferred Credentials:  
           select the target service name and change the 
           user name and password to a dba user.

* Relaunch Performance Manager.
 


Overview
----------
The data gatherer is a component of server software that collects system information, 
which can be transmitted to the Performance Manager and the Capacity Planner.

Starting with 8.0.5, the Data Gatherer is installed automatically as soon as the Intelligent Agent 
is installed.  After the installation, a directory  'odg' will be added to the $ORACLE_HOME structure.
All of the Data Gatherer specific information will be stored in the odg directory.
